REPRESENT YOUR TRUE CONSTITUENTS! Date Posted: 2012-08-08
The President’s five-point position on responsible parenthood, popularly known as the RH Bill, outlines the reasons for his support of the RH bill. With this declaration, he has effectively countered some of the main arguments against the bill; the main one being of abortion, and the other being the matter of CHOICE. Choice in the ability of couples to manage their families, choice for individuals to follow one's religious conviction without hindrance to other's choices, and finally the obligation of the state to provide choices to all, especially those who are at a disadvantage.
The five-point position on responsible parenthood of President Benigno S. Aquino III:
1. I am against abortion.
2. I am in favor of giving couples the right to choose how best to manage their families so that in the end, their welfare and that of their children are best served.
3. The State must respect each individual’s right to follow his or her conscience and religious convictions on matters and issues pertaining to the unity of the family and the sacredness of human life from conception to natural death.
4. In a situation where couples, especially the poor and disadvantaged ones, are in no position to make an informed judgment, the State has the responsibility to so provide.
5. In the range of options and information provided to couples, natural family planning and modern methods shall be presented as equally available.
The agreement to end the debates and move on to the amendment period is one hurdle overcome towards the passing of this bill. Perhaps now our lawmakers can lay down their personal and political agendas and consider the needs of the Filipino people as a whole.
The time now calls for every single Filipino to come to the aid of their country. We ask all congressmen to lay down your political divides and come out to represent your true constituents.
