…as the sun dips to meet the horizon, comes a pause in the day’s occupation, and that is known as… KOALA TIME!
A heavy downfall of rain and limited space in the guest house’s dining area prevented an open invitation to the birthday bash, but those privileged to be present were treated to an unforgettable evening with Congressman Mark O. Cojuangco.
With the two Ks, Karyo and Keong, we arrived at the reception area earlier than expected; it turned out to be fortuitous timing because we discovered that the Honorable Congressman is also a whiz in the kitchen, a veritable chef!
Each greeted him a blissful birthday as he met us at the guest house’s yard. Full of smiles and in good spirits, the congressman towed us near the kitchen and said, “Come help me cook!” An immediate expression of bewilderment was apparent in the eyes of Keong who may have had thought to himself, “Does he really know how to cook?” To his amazement, Keong heard the congressman correcting his best cook, Alex, about the proper roasting procedure. Yes, indeed the congressman knows his way around the kitchen! The Congressman was meticulous with the meat’s preparation particularly time setting.
After the culinary preparations were in order, the party proceeded to the dining area’s main door, where the two secretaries, Dhang Manaois and Joy Julaton, were fast becoming anxious because guests were arriving and the celebrant was still in his house gear.
For the early arrivals, the Congressman started off the party by breaking open one bottle of the famed Koala red that soon poured non-stop in the bottomless glass of Mr. Karyo.
Soon, as more guests poured-in, the celebrant left our midst to entertain his other guests, leaving us in good spirits for having had a rare opportunity and quality time with the Congressman to ourselves.
The rain shied away from that momentous evening after all. The night seemed to be at peace with the Congressman and all the guests. The mellow tunes sung like blues by the famed EC Jammers that drifts along the alleys and the empty yard put stillness in the air. But the arrival of the lovely Mayor and her dazzling sister Cristy suddenly broke the serenity into passion and joie de vivre. The night turned even more sensational as Mayor Kimi let loose, the whole cast of the Sison Idols who immediately dominated the floor. The Mayors and Vice Mayors from the 5th district of Pangasinan, also honored guests at this event, particularly enjoyed the enthusiastic performance of the young idols. Some of them even texted in their votes for their favorite Sison idol.
As the Sison Idols continued to give color to the night, Mayor Kimi appealed to the Mayors and Vice Mayors of her intent to bring the whole cast in their respectable towns. Not surprisingly, a hundred and one percent immediately consented. Vice Governor, Marlyn Primicias Agabas also offered the Provincial Capitol as a venue for the Sison Idols presentation.
A sumptuous and wide array of superb culinary dishes were served that lured most to momentarily exit their diet especially when the honorable Congressman personally carved and served everyone his delicious roasts.
After all the guests left, the hilarity continued starting when Keong took the microphone from one of the lead singers of the EC Jammers and brought out the old sentimental songs that long ago confused his better half, Daria. The Idols followed up with their swings and discos that Mayor Kimi was astounded to see SB member Murao jumping and doing his peculiar bopballetboogietangwaltzcha all night in sheer energy. Not wanting to be left behind, Hon. Mina Joy Pangasinan also showed off her dance moves that also started all the hullabaloos and merriment to the max. Soon, the dancing cooks led by Alex joined the fun performing synchronized cheer dance from behind the bar counter in their whites and cheerful dispositions. Atty. Jason was pushed from behind that forced him to also make his best in the dance floor. The other Sanggunian Bayan members led by Vice Mayor Mari?as, Mdm. Cristy, Mayor Kimi and the Congressman all jumped in to make the happiest birthday bash ever in the town. AND KARYO MISSED EVERYTHING!
