SISON DA & COLLABORATORS CONDUCT 22 WEEKS TRAINING/SEMINAR ON HYBRID RICE SEED PRODUCTION

| | September 2, 2008 – The Department of Agriculture, Sison office, under the leadership of Mrs. Belinda S. Villanueva conducted its 11th week training on “Season-Long Training on Hybrid Rice Seed Production and Certification” in Barangay Pinmilapil, Sison, Pangasinan. The program is collaborated by the DA-RFU-I, BPI-National Seed Quality Control Services-I, Agricultural Training Institute - Regional Training Center-I, ABONO Party List, Provincial Government of Pangasinan and LGU Sison and San Fabian that commenced on June 17, 2008 and ends on October 30, 2008.
The day’s activity was handled by Mrs. Rina Catabay and Mrs. Marivic Dacpano which was personally officiated and monitored by the NSQCS-I Chief, Dr. Benito S. Andaya for the entire 22 weeks duration.
The objective is to train farmers to produce the Mestizo-I hybrid rice seed called the F1. The F1’s progeny called the F2 is for food consumption. The F1 variety has both female and male parent and cannot serve as food consumption because it will be crushed to powder if milled. Those who attended the training/seminar will be accredited as producers and recognized to transact with the Department of Agriculture. Their F1 produce will be bought by the DA at Php196.00 per kilo. If one accredited farmer was able to produce one ton, it is equivalent to One Hundred Ninety Six Thousand Pesos (Php 196,000.00). The estimated price of ordinary rice seed (palay) today is Php 13.00/kilo.
The activity is also constantly being monitored by Mayor Kimi S. Cojuangco through the town’s office of the Department of Agriculture, who are almost always constantly summoned to render their reports.
